DAY 5: Beauty Tip (A PIMPLE! oh no!)

PROBLEM: I just got a break out! Overnight and just in time for my party... interview... etc.

SOLUTION: Don't stress out! This is what might have caused it in the first place.
Ladies, we all know the joys of hormonal breakouts (they usually occur around the chin/mouth area) and lack of sleep, washing our face, or touching our faces with dirty hands (especially this time of year) are all reasons we wake up with "friends" on our faces.

We NEVER want a breakout - I don't care what anyone says, there is NEVER a good time for a pimple!
Two tricks... get a sulfur based lotion (usually pink with liquid) my favorite is BYE BYE BLEMISH - I SWEAR by it!
Apply this product at night before bed...don't squeeze or pick - I promise you will just make it worse.
This lotion applied to breakouts and almost soon to be breakouts - will literally suck the life out of the little guy and be gone before you know it.

But before you get rid of your friend, make sure NOT to put HIGHLIGHTER/Concealer on top - if too light it will only draw more attention to the fact you have a pimple. You want to CORRECT the REDNESS and conceal the discoloration (we can't control the texture or inflammation). So to do this, grab a concealer similar to your skintone with a olive/green undertone - this will neutralize the redness! Just put a bit on your finger and tap into your skin until it melts into your skin and the redness goes away! Walllllllllllllllllllah! All gone!

Best wishes!

Day 4 Beauty Tip (BRONZER or TAN)

PROBLEM: I am so light now that it is winter!
Not as much opportunity for sun... you could take a tropical vacation! This is my first suggestion...

SOLUTION: For the rest of us that can't pop on a plane in the next few days to BALI... how about bronzer or an airbrushed tan!
There are a few self tanners that are REALLY nice for this time of year.
I like JERGENS NATURAL GLOW... you put it on each day after you shower and it SLOWLY builds to a nice glow.

Although, a nice treat would be to find someone that airbrushes a tan. This is a bit more pricey but you get a great color that lasts for a week, no tan lines and even coverage without streaking... this is my personal favorite!

For the face, I like to add a darker tinted moisturizer with alittle BRONZER on top. You want a bronzer that is soft and just lightly circled over skin... you can slowly build this up. Some of the MINERAL MAKEUP lines have a nice added bronzer to there colors.

For a bit more sparkle, I like to add NIVEA or JERGENS Body Shimmer lotion to legs, arms & decoliotte for a nice holiday sheen.

Just remember, you can have color too... but less is more! Don't turn yourself orange.
Tanning beds aren't the safest choice anymore.

Until next time,
Michelle

DAY 3 - Beauty Tip (BREAKING NAILS)

PROBLEM: Dry, Cracking, Breaking, Natural Nails

This is the time of year especially those of us with natural nails go bonkers!
They KEEP peeling, breaking & cracking!
This is the time of year we want them to look good! Here are some tips to keep you in great shape and great lengths for the holidays & new year!

SOLUTION: Put a nail strengthener on each night or at least weekly before bed. ALWAYS put on hand creme to moisturize at night too. If you are really good, apply your cuticle oil last, this keeps your nail beds moist and not dry. (Remember your new nails come from the nail bed and this is where you REALLY need to take care!)

Whenever you can, where gloves outside. I have saved soooooooooooooooooo many manicures just by wearing gloves.
Growing up on the East Coast, long nails were in and cold winters were torture!
One on my favorite products for growing healthy natural nails is QUITICA growth stimulator. No bad chemicals and stuff!
When I moved from NJ to CA I took off my acryllics and this was the only thing that saved my manicures! They have a great cuticle cream too!

Polish will stay on better with natural nails if you use a base coat. My FAVORITE is STICKEY by Creative Nail Design (in beauty supply stores) and their top coat SUPER SHINY is great too! This base coat actually gets tacky and grabs the top polish... I can usually keep my manicure for over a week!

BOTTOM LINE... Protect your hands and moisturize. Remember they heal and grow over night, so make the effort before you go to sleep! You will be glad you did!

Best Wishes

Michelle

DAY 2 - Beauty Tip (UNDER-EYES CIRCLES)

PROBLEM: Under-eye discoloration and or puffiness

You will be surprised at how many folks have the same problem! Some of the trouble comes for our lifestyle (lack of sleep, too much fun/drinking...) and some or just hereditary (thanks mom!)
But hope is on the way... if we can't get rid of it - at least we can CONCEAL it!

First we want to try to get the best from our skin as possible. We want to drink as much water as we can to clean out the impurities that hang out - alittle too long. (Excuse me while I go get a glass...)
Next, if possible we want to get as much rest and peaceful sleep as we can (good luck, huh?!) Well how about trying to at least sleep on your back. This will help avoid puffiness and wrinkles.

SOLUTION: Puffiness
When all else fails Preparation H is a good stay by (keep it out of your eyes!) I like to have my clients lay back for 10 min. with a warm tea bag on the eye... Green Tea & Chamomile work great. When it cools, wait a few minutes and remove.
Cool pack of ice can help swollen eyes, just don't make it too cold - some brides have given themselves brainfreeze from that one!

A good night creme for the eye area will work miracles! You need to use it consistantly and over at least a 2 month period you will see results. My favorite is YONKA's PHYTO CONTOUR (specifically for puffiness and dark circles). You need to use the entire tube before you are sure results.

Dark Circles
This is easy to conceal with the right color. Most people grab a light highlighter/concealer and actually make it worse!
All you are doing at this point is drawing attention to your circles. You must first, cover them, then you can highlight on top of them with a light concealer.
Finding the right color can be tricky, but works miracles when done correctly.
If you have fair skin you want to find a orange-ish colored concealer in the similiar shade as your skin.
If you have med skin you can go with a darker orange colored concealer. Check out Bobby Brown.
If you have dark skin you can go with a bright orange colored concealer (don't be frightened, it works GREAT!) Check out MUDShop.com

With light to medium darker pigmented skin I love a caramel colored concealer for the undereye area. Not only will it cover the dark pigmentation, it also highlights. Check out IMAN line.

So there you go... with the right preventative treatment and the correct beauty products... you will have the "soap opera" eyes everyone knows and loves!

If you have any questions, let me know!

Best Wishes and Good Luck!

DAY 1 - Beauty Tip (DRY CRACKED SKIN)

PROBLEM: DRY, Cracking Skin

This is the time of year no matter where you live in the country we all get chapped! YUCK!
Itching, cracking, flaking and sometimes bleeding...don't worry now there is some help.
These are some suggestions I give to my clients and follow myself this time of year.

SOLUTION: MOISTURIZE, MASK & HYDRATE.

OK, first EVERY night before bed you must put on MOISTURIZER (on face), lip balm/chapstick (lips) and lotion (hands).

I LOVE a few products... COW UTTER CREAM is great for this time of year. Most drug stores carry this creme. Yes, it is used to lubricate cows, but it works great on human hands too! I usually will layer a heavy creme from BATH & BODY on top too. For extra silky treatment place on a pair of cotton gloves and go to sleep - your hands will LOVE you when you wake up!
Everytime you wash your hands, follow with hand lotion.

Whenever possible I always have something on my lips this time of year. Remember, we need to remain kissable for the new year! BLISTEX and CHAPSTICK are favorites but CAROTITE (not sure if I spelled correctly) with Shea Butter is amazing - you have to find that in beauty supply stores. Or check the local health food store... shea butter is moisturizing and silky. (Nice holiday stocking stuffers!)

Depending on your skin, an appropriate moisturizer will help this time of year. Even oily skin can benefit from moisture hydration. I love the line from DR. GRANDEL. It puts in water not oil. Make sure to place on your face before bed, this is the most important time to treat your skin... your skin REPAIRS itself at night. The best time to moisturize is right after a shower or face cleansing... the lotion locks in the moisture you just had on your skin.

Even I make time to get a facial ONCE A MONTH this time of year. In addition, I also use a MASK once a week on the weekends at home. A facial is great, but the follow-up homecare will make it wonderful! The combination will eliminate the flaking and itchy skin. Instead you will glow!

Hydrating on the inside is just as important as our lotions on the outside. Drinking alot of ALCOHOL and SODA this time of year = DEHYDRATION. Do you for every 1 can of soda you drink you need to replace your body's hydration with a MINIMUM of 2 glasses of water. So have a water chaser with your drinks this season and when in doubt... grab a bottle of water!
YOUR SKIN WILL THANK YOU!

All My Best!

Some FUN Makeup Ideas for the Season...

This is the time of year where everyone has friends and family to see, work obligations, parties to attend and places to travel.
Why not make it fun and leave everyone with a great impression!

Try something different in your makeup routine!
LASHES are HOT!
Whether you go for the natural lush look of lash extensions for the season (they will last you through New Years! & if you are good Valentine's Day!) or play around with glued on false lashes - GO FOR IT!
I was just in ULTA yesterday and they have some wonderful glittery lashes from ARDEL. They are only $3.99 each and if you take care of them, you can use them all season. Just make sure you use good glue! My favorite is DUO.
Application takes alittle practice, but you can do it! Start by centering them in the middle of your eye and work your way out to the ends. You only need a toothpick's worth of glue on the lashes and you want to fit them right in the indentation on your lash line. Just start practicing and you'll be perfect by the party!

Glitter and shimmer!
Even the most natural non-makeup wearer can have fun with a little glitter and shimmer this holiday season. It is easy and when the light hits your face, you'll glisten.
The best thing to do is look for an eyeshadow that has glitter in it (although this usually irriates my eyes by the end of the evening because the pieces are too big but may work for you) or find a FINE powder shadow with shimmer!
Alot of the mineral makeup eyeshadows are GREAT for this! I am addicted to all the colors from BARE ID that are shimmery.
As you apply they will naturally fall on the tops of your cheekbones and there is your glisten! on your eyes and a light highlight on your cheeks.
You will be surprised at how many compliments you will receive!
You can also try glitter eyeliner (these are ALWAYS a showshopper!) right across your lash line like the products from URBAN DECAY. Or if liquid liner isn't your thing, many brands have eyeliner pencils with glitter in them too (MAC has some great ones). Have fun! and remember, a little goes a long way - don't over-do!

Lips that stay on!
Lips are fun - you can go glossy or slightly darker than normal around the holidays and you'll be the Belle of the Ball.
With all the talking, drinking and eating we do this time of year, it is hard to find a lipstick that actually lasts all evening.
First step is finding a great lip liner... when everything else wears off - at least you will still have the lip liner. I love the tried and true SPICE liner from MAC.
Line your entire lip - then fill in with lip liner... pick a long-wearing color, like my recent favorite REVELON COLOR STAY and appy over the liner. Then follow with a light gloss of your choice.
The long-wearing colors tend to dry out your lips a bit but I have worn them alot this fall with all my travelling and by putting on chapstick each night before bed, it hasn't been a problem - and I am REALLY dry.

So while standing at the check-out counter or waiting for your number to be called to pick out those holiday gifts, look through the beauty magazines (you don't have to buy them) and take a look at some fun ideas that you might like to try for the holidays!

Just a little change to your makeup routine, and you'll be surprised at how much fun it is. When you see the pictures from the parties, you won't believe your eyes! Compliments will definately come your way! Enjoy...

Please write to me with your success stories and tips... I look forward to hearing from you!
Happy Holidays!
